HASCO is the first and only supplier to offer the completely
new steel/copper core pins as standard. The pins
manufactured according to the MECOBOND® process
have a hardened steel casing and a copper core. The
completely leakproof metallic join between the steel and
copper is achieved through a special high-temperature,
high-pressure diffusion process.

The heat conductivity of the steel/cooper core pin is up to
10 times better than with tool steel.

The new HASCO steel/copper core pin Z494/... made from
beryllium-free copper is especially suitable for specific heat
dissipation in thermal problem zones (so-called "hot spots")
in injection and compression moulds. Typical applications
are e.g. long screw-on domes for blind or through holes,
which are generally used for assembling plastic parts by
means of self-tapping screws. Use of the Z494/... enables
cycle times to be reduced by up to 50%. Further advantages,
as a result of the optimum heat removal, are improved
process safety and a higher level of quality for the plastic
parts produced.

The principle of the Z494/... steel/copper core pins involves
the hardened steel forming the shell of the core pin including
the contour-forming surface, and hence ensuring wear
protection as well as the important factor of mechanical stability.
The copper is located in the inner part of the mould core.
A high-quality metallic diffusion join exists between the steel
shell and the copper core. Depending on the application, the
wear resistance on the face of the Z494/... can be improved
even further by laser build-up welding of steel.

Typical applications for the Z494/...are the demoulding of
screw-on domes, blind and through holes. Installation in
mould slides has proven particularly effective.

A large range of field-proven applications exist for
the following installation variants of the steel/copper core pins:

- as an ejector pin
- as an ejector pin with sleeve.
